Gun nuts

jeudi 16 mars 2017 à 01:00

Some gun nuts have a conspiracy theory that the Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax, that the people killed there didn't exist. Naturally, they support the troll.

Following the troll's example, they insist on this with a lunatic rejection of all inconvenient facts, and harass and threaten the parents of children that were killed.

Republican party platform in regard to Ukraine

jeudi 16 mars 2017 à 01:00

The troll's supporters who intervened to change the Republican Party platform in regard to Ukraine act guilty about it.

The argument is speculation, not proved true, but something like it could be true.

The change the troll made in the Republican platform was for the better, in my opinion. I think it would have been very foolish for the US to escalate the Ukraine proxy war. However, I find the relationship between the troll and Putin to be alarming enough to justify an investigation to determine how far it goes.

Surveillance by "smart" vibrator

jeudi 16 mars 2017 à 01:00

We-Vibe has been ordered by a Canadian court to pay customers up to $10,000 each for selling them a "smart" vibrator with an app that told the company how people were using it.

If an object or product is called "smart", you shouldn't trust it.

It appears the company lost the case because it had not asked buyers to consent to the surveillance. The next such manufacturer will put something vague about this in the "terms of service" so it can say it got "consent".

We need laws that limit the collection of data by businesses or services and which take the position that "consent is not an excuse".

Ebook sales declining in UK

jeudi 16 mars 2017 à 01:00

In the UK, printed book sales are increasing and ebook sales are declining.

Can someone find sales figures for the US to compare with this?

The reason I reject commercial ebooks is that they attack our freedom in several ways.

Tasmania's extractivist government

jeudi 16 mars 2017 à 01:00

Tasmania's extractivist government wants to cut down areas of rain forest which are home to endangered species.

The swift parrot is designated as critically endangered, with only 2000 adults living, and could have been headed for extinction by 2030, partly due to habitat loss.

I guess that this appears to an extractivist as an opportunity to eliminate the issue by wiping them out.
