US citizens: support Sanders's plan to extend Social Security.
British comedian Frankie Boyle skewers the troll. Example: "If the Queen ever has to shake Trump's hand, she will put on so many gloves she'll look like Mickey Mouse." I was laughing out loud all through it.
However, I had trouble understanding one sentence because of a confusing pronoun: "Admittedly, any expert psychologist will tell you that torture does work, but only if you first threaten them with bare electrical wires."
Who here are the people to be threatened? They could only be the victims — but that would seem to assert that torture works, and surely that wasn't what Boyle intended. Eventually I figured out that "them" was used confusingly as a singular pronoun, an ill-advised practice. Boyle should have written, "threaten per with bare electrical wires."
Historical precedent suggests we are propelling Earth to "palms in the Arctic" levels of heat.
US universities have been ordered to use unfair procedures to adjudicate accusations of rape, or unwelcome touching. They fall way short of our standards of criminal justice.
The Protecting Data at the Border Act would protect US citizens from arbitrary searches of their digital devices or service accounts as they enter the US.
Human rights apply to foreigners, too. I think foreigners should have a way to ask, before they buy tickets, whether the US would demand to investigate them in any of those intrusive ways. If the US says at that time that it has no wish to do search, then that foreigner would be treated at the border like a US citizen: searching per devices or accounts would require a warrant. If the US says at that time that it might search devices an accounts, it is not too late for that foreigner to decide to stay away.
