Offering too much to other countries to free US citizens would put more US citizens in danger.
In my view, a patriotic citizen (of any country) does not ask its government to procure per release from a foreign prison through concessions that could affect the well-being or interests of the country. I am surprised by the expectation that the head of state personally involve perself in such negotiations.
The right-wing scheme to allow state legislatures to disregard state constitutions for federal elections completely contradicts the ideas of "federalism" which the right-wing politicians claim to base their thinking on.
ATMs and vending machines in Russia run nonfree software — the machines' owners cannot fix them.
We might argue that it is ok for banks and companies in Russia to be attacked in this way, as punishment for Putin's invasion of Ukraine; but I expect the same attack vector exists in most or all other countries too.
Prominent Ukrainian medic Yulia Paievska was captured by the Putin forces in March, because they recognized her as somewhat famous. Then they tortured her persistently, constantly demanding she admit to some Nazi connections.
Why don't the Putin forces grab some Republicans from the US instead? Those may be glad to admit they are Nazis.
