Tax breaks for US businesses

vendredi 30 janvier 2015 à 13:00

Republicans and Democrats in the Senate are working together on a tax break intended to encourage US businesses to pay taxes on their profits.

Funny that congress never seems to think of simply making them pay their taxes. They argue that it is self-defeating to keep the door closed while the window is open, so they should open the door. The idea of shutting the window never occurs to them. Instructions for bankrupting the country:

  1. Pass a dumb law that lets companies or the rich pay less tax, or in some other way hurt the public interest.
  2. Offer them money or power as an "incentive" not to do it.
  3. Repeat until they own everything.
Note how the patent system is an example of this. The idea of patents is to discourage trade secrecy, recognized as harmful to society. In 1800, trade secrecy meant "Just don't tell anyone your secret method", but nowadays there are laws to help businesses keep important methods secret, so then the government turns around and says, "So you won't exercise that extra power we just gave you, here's a different special power instead.

Is it stupid or is it corrupt?

Julia Reda, the sole Pirate Party member of the European Parliament, has proposed a copyright reform directive which goes in the right direction but does not propose to address the issue of freedom to share.

The article suggests EU citizens write to MEPs. I suggest demanding reform on that issue too.
