California cities have cut water usage by 30%.
That would be a giant step towards saving water for the future, except
for one thing: most of California's water use is for farming and
nonrenewable energy. If those keep using up water as if there were no
tomorrow, cities may find in a year or two that there isn't enough
left in the reservoirs even for their reduced usage.
By the way, if you call this "the drought of the century", specify the
20th century. But 21st century standards, this one isn't special.
Drought has also hit a large part of Europe, damaging the harvest there.
This too will become frequent due to global heating.
