Uber paid academic economists as much as $100,000 to publish research that would present the company as beneficial for society.

The article explains facts that these economists disregarded. However, just as crucial was to choose economists whose general assumptions predisposed them to evaluate based on parameters where Uber would excel, and ignore consequences that we might consider bad, such as wages that you can't live on.

Some black men run away from traffic stops because they are terrified that thugs will kill them.

Rationally, the chance that any given black man will be killed in any given traffic stop is minuscule. But I can't blame them for feeling terrified, given the thugs' patterns of bias and harassment. There is no reliable way for a black driver to get through a traffic stop safely — you can get shot for obeying the thugs' orders.
