Bangladeshi leather workers poisoned

dimanche 26 mars 2017 à 01:00

Bangladeshi leather workers have no protection from toxic chemicals; almost everyone that lives in the leather production district dies before age 50.

The practice is protected by business-supremacy treaties, which forbid the richer countries from banning the importation of leather made without safety gear.

The article dwells on the fact that child laborers are among those being poisoned in this way, but I think that is a side issue; it is no more acceptable to do this to adults than to children.

Laptops in checked baggage

dimanche 26 mars 2017 à 01:00

The US now requires all laptops to be in checked baggage on flights to the US from certain countries or airports.

Experts can't see how this could make sense for security of the flights. I wonder if the motive is to disadvantage Emirates airline — because it will have that effect.

It's clear that putting your laptop in checked baggage is a risk to your own security. I'd recommend you make a connection in Europe if you are going to any of those countries, rather than check your laptop.

I recommend avoiding Egypt, Turkey, Salafi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, simply to protect yourself from their governments. It is dangerous even to make a flight connection in the airport of Qatar or the UAE.

US media rushing to conclusion without proof

dimanche 26 mars 2017 à 01:00

Some US media are rushing to the conclusion that the troll conspired with Russia — and presenting no proof of this.

I think the question needs to be investigated, but really it is a side issue. We know that he "won" the election through cheating. We know he violates the constitution through foreign conflicts of interest and is making decisions to enrich himself. We know he wants to incarnate dooH niboR, and kill many thousands of Americans each year (far more than Islamist and right-wing terrorists put together).

We don't need any more than this to conclude he should be impeached.

Biometric identification in India

dimanche 26 mars 2017 à 01:00

India is starting the final stage of forcing everyone to submit to biometric identification, excluding people from many activities as well as many kinds of welfare benefits unless they have been identified.

While the people quoted in the article are most concerned for the harm done to those who reject biometric identification, I am most concerned with the harm of the biometric identification system itself. It is tyranny, pure and simple.
