Car loan, car tracker

mardi 7 mars 2023 à 15:02

Some companies, when making a car loan, require drivers to use a machine that tracks all the car's movements.

This demonstrates the uselessness of a "consent" requirement as protection for our privacy. If companies say, "If you don't consent to total tracking, you don't get a car," your "choice" is a fiction.

Protester repression, UK

mardi 7 mars 2023 à 15:02

One proposed repression has been removed from the Tories' bill for repression of protests: it won't allow arrest of journalists for covering protests.

That protecting journalists from arrest had to be done with a special exclusion — roughtly "journalists covering a protest have an exemption" — demonstrates that this law threatens the rights people in the vicinity of a protest even if they are not joining in the protest.

Jailing protesters is bad enough; jailing people for being near a protest is an additional step towards repression.
