It appears effective to attack Aedes aegypti by releasing sterile males, infected with Wolbachia bacteria.

What is not yet established is whether it is possible to carry this to the point of total eradication in a region. Mosquitoes evolve quickly; they may evolve resistance to the Wolbachia bacteria's sterilizing effect.

I think it would be wise to hit those mosquitoes with every possible method at once, including draining every puddle they could grow in, applying pesticides, and perhaps also spraying repellents. The faster their population decreases, the less chance they will have to evolve resistance to the bacteria before they are all gone.
